When La Boricua rolls up, you know something special’s cooking. The music, the aroma, the island energy — it all comes together in one delicious experience.

We’re not just a food truck; we’re a taste of Puerto Rico on wheels, blending bold island flavors with American favorites everyone loves.

From crispy empanadas and arroz con habichuelas (rice and stewed beans) to tacos and our juicy smash burgers, every bite is made with care, culture, and a whole lot of sabor (flavor).

La Boricua started as a small dream under a tent. In 2022, after stepping into retirement, my mom Debbie decided she wasn’t done sharing her love of cooking. Armed with a couple of fryers and her one-of-a-kind recipes, she began selling pizza bombs and empanadas made from our family’s cherished Puerto Rican recipe passed down for generations.

Word spread quickly — people loved the food and the heart behind it. By late 2023, she decided to expand and invest in a full food truck. After proudly serving the Newaygo and Lake counties area for several years, she finally passed the business down to her family.

We moved to Oakland County, Michigan, where our very first introduction came at the Commerce Crossings Shopping Area in Commerce Township. The community welcomed us with open arms. Before long, we were serving neighborhoods, private events, art shows, and festivals across the area.

Our customers tell us they can taste the authenticity. Many who’ve traveled the Caribbean and South America say our empanadas are some of the best they’ve ever had. Others come back week after week, bringing friends and family along to share the experience.

We take pride in that. Because to us, repeat customers aren’t just business — they’re extended family.
